The 1907 Society is UC Riverside’s distinguished community of visionary alumni, friends, and supporters who ensure that the promise of opportunity continues for future generations. Through planned gifts—such as bequests, charitable trusts, and beneficiary designations—you leave a lasting legacy that helps advance UCR’s mission of research, innovation, and community impact.

How to Join:

Membership is simple and distinguished: it begins when you document your planned gift to UCR through:

  • A will, living trust, or other estate plan
  • Beneficiary designations on retirement plans, life insurance policies, bank or brokerage accounts
  • A charitable gift annuity (CGA) or charitable remainder trust (CRUT)
  • A portion of a residuum from a CGA or CRUT established elsewhere
  • A lead interest designation in a charitable lead trust

Most planned gifts have no minimum amount required, though certain options such as charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts do have minimum funding levels.

Your membership is recognized immediately upon notifying UCR of your planned gift.

Member Benefits:

As a valued 1907 Society member, you enjoy exclusive recognition and experiences, including:

  • Invitations to Homecoming events
  • Intimate gatherings with UCR senior leadership

Did You Know?

UCR’s roots trace back to just two naval orange cuttings planted in 1873—an origin that blossomed into Southern California’s citrus belt and inspired the creation of the Citrus Experiment Station in 1907, the foundation of today’s UC Riverside. The 1907 Society takes its name from this pivotal moment in our history, honoring a legacy of growth, innovation, and discovery. Your planned gift continues that legacy—cultivating opportunity and impact for generations to come.

In addition to supporting the mission of UC Riverside and granting you lifetime membership in the 1907 Society, your planned gift may provide financial advantages depending on the type of gift you choose, such as:

  • An income tax deduction
  • Reduced capital gains taxes
  • Reduced probate costs and estate taxes
  • Income for life

Congress has provided several incentives to encourage charitable giving. By taking advantage of these opportunities, you and your advisor can design a gift plan that meets your personal and financial goals—while supporting UCR’s enduring mission.
